Lucibela was born on April 18th 1986, in Tarrafal on the island of SĂŁo Nicolau in Cape Verde. From an early age, she showed an interest in singing. When her family moved to Mindelo, she found a favourable environment in which to develop her talent, and a few years later she made her debut as a singer in the hotels of Santa Maria on the island of Sal and Sal Rei on the island of Boa Vista. There, she honed her technique and was an instant hit with tourists, performing the repertoire of the greatest Cape Verdean singers.
In 2016, Lucibela took her first steps in Lisbon. Some journalists were already comparing her to Cesaria Evora. âWhat I want is to continue the work that Cesaria started. I want to sing Cape Verdean musical genres like morna and coladera all over the worldâ, she confides, âbut I want to do it with my own talentâ.
With the album Laço Umbilical (Umbilical Cord), released in February 2018, the singer set out to conquer world stages. In 2019, a bonus version of this album was released, with an unreleased track and two featuring tracks: with Bonga and Sofiane Saidi. With Amdjer, released on 3 June 2022, Lucibela pays tribute to Cape Verdean women, but also to women in general.
